Our Sponsored Children, and the Kenya Project.

The 2005 Project

But it doesn't stop there! In total, from the sale of that one CD in 2004, we didn't raise just £600 - we raised £3,000 !

So we have a new project on the way already

How fortunate are we?

Here we are, enjoying the benefits of comfortable homes, good food, and luxuries such as computers and the internet, and not the least, good education for our children.

We think nothing about spending £14.00 on a CD of an old book, and here at Archive CD Books I am prepared to buy expensive equipment, and old books costing many hundreds of pounds.

Not everyone in the world is so fortunate. We've all seen examples on the television, and at times, it brings a lump to our throats and tears to our eyes.

What happens there in third world countries when the TV crews have gone home, and we get on with our lives?

Those people we have seen stay there, and get on with their lives too.

A small donation can make a huge difference, especially if that donation is made direct and not soaked up by administrative costs. That's what the Archive CD Books Supporters have been doing.

Who would have thought that the sale of this CD could not only have provided concrete floors for all the class rooms, but also go almost all of the way to building a new school?

WE ARE HELPING TO BUILD AN INFANT SCHOOL

MOVING ON TO STAGE 2

The new infant school at Dago Kokore is already being built, thanks to the wonderful support that we had earlier this year.

In fact, the buildings have already reached roof level!

Obviously, we can't leave it there!.... we have to finish the job and provide more money.
Therefore the stage 2 of the 2005 project is to raise the remainder of the money needed to:

  • Complete the roof
  • Add the windows and doors
  • Finish the flooring
  • Buy tables and chairs for the children
  • and why stop there... to buy materials and resources so that the children can enjoy the same level of education as our own fortunate children.

WE CAN DO IT ! - AND YOU CAN HELP
WE CAN ALL SUCCEED AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

In case you missed it: the 2005 story so far.

This is where we left off the story earlier in the year. The headmaster standing at the end of the plot where the new infant school was to be built.

And the work commenced! This is almost the same view as the photo above.

At Easter 2005 two of the teachers from the Dago Kokore School came to visit England as part of a "teacher exchange" funded by the British Council in Kenya. Mary (left) and Beatrice (right) are teachers in the Infant School which is at the moment sited down the road from the main school in the local church, and where they have to pack everything up each day. So we were doubly fortunate to be able to host them in our home for the week. Its their children for whom we are building the new school. During the week, they were able to visit a local school here in the Forest of Dean. Naturally, they were very envious of the resources in our schools! This is the first time that either of them had been out of Kenya, the first time in an aeroplane, and their first view of the western world. It was quite a culture shock for them. Mary lives in a mud hut back in Kisumu. Literally. No electricity, no running water. Whilst they were here, we had a few friends round for a little party. Fourth from the left (back row) is Gay, my wife, who entertained them for the week and spent time with them at Ruardean Primary School. But they did find the time to come in to the Archive CD Books office to be introduced to everyone.

Let the work begin!

A long view of the site. The main primary school is on the right. The first pile of stones and sand has arrived. The new infant school building will be facing us, just in front of the trees in the background

Mary takes the first barrow load of sand. The work begins! It is a momentous occasion for the people at the school.

Digging out for the foundations begins.

And the first course of stones are laid.

The foundations are almost completed

And then filled with large rough stones for the base of the floors

And finally sand is levelled over the stones

And the sand is flattened.

Hey! We are in our new school !

The first load of bricks arrive. These are home-made mud bricks.  Now we can start the real building.

And this is the new school going up. Three class rooms plus an office/store room. The photo is taken from the same place as the one near the top of this page, where the foundations are being dug.

We did all this with less than £3,000 thanks to your kind generosity in 2004/5 - Thank you!

100% of your £10.00 will go direct to the project. And Archive CD Books makes the CD for free too.

100% of any donation made will go direct to the school. No administration money is taken out of it.

EVERY PENNY COUNTS!

Below: the very latest picture that we have from Kenya. The roof timbers are going on. But the last load of money we sent has now run out, and the local timber suppliers have let the school have this timber with payment to follow.

That's why we need more funds. And we need it now.

But this time, we are not going to stop there.

IF WE RAISE THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WE DID EARLIER THIS YEAR, THEN THE PROJECT CAN BE COMPLETED.

A NEW CD FOR THE 2005 PROJECT

So we have two ways that you can help.

  1. Archive CD Books is offering one of its best CDs at a price reduced from £35.00 to £10.00. The superb set of books of The History of England by Charles Knight, published in the mid 1800s. Eight huge volumes.
    BUY THE 2005 SPECIAL CD
    .
  2. In addition, we have added an extra "item" to the shopping cart where you can simply donate money. In multiples of £5.00. If you feel that you want to help, then just give £5.00 to the project. If you are able to donate more, then add more of this item to the shopping cart. e.g. 5 units will donate £25.00
A note.... actually, if you ONLY click on the £5.00 donation without adding further items to the shopping cart (and nobody says that you have to!) then the shopping cart software will add an extra £2.00 "post and packing". Sorry, but that's just the way that the software works, and you will have spent £7.00 (or £8.22 if you are in the UK). The whole of that money will go to the Kenya project. (The extra £2.00 is only added once, and therefore if you add multiples of the £5.00 donation or the special CD too, then the £2.00 only appears once).

THANK YOU  FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT - FROM THOSE OF US HERE AT ARCHIVE CD BOOKS AND MORE IMPORTANTLY - FROM THE CHILDREN AND STAFF OF THE DAGO KOKORE SCHOOL.
